Duels are an art form! Pianist and orchestra rival each other in virtuosity and inventiveness in this program featuring Gershwin’s century-old Rhapsody in Blue and Rick Astley’s exuberantly naive Variations on Never gonna give you up, a parody tribute to Rachmaninov.
Grace, on the piano with Fanny Monnet and in the orchestra, is omnipresent, giving the ensemble the air of a collaborative duel in the service of powerful scores. After all, that’s what a concerto is all about!
