Discover this upcoming exhibition in collaboration with London's National Portrait Gallery, from February 14 to June 8, 2025 at the Fondation Pierre Gianadda.
This spring, the Fondation Pierre Gianadda presents an exhibition by Francis Bacon, one of the most celebrated painters of the 20th century. Bacon explores portraits in a complex manner and with intense commitment. His portraits are among the most powerful and poignant of the twentieth century.
He fuses image and painting in a way that “touches the nervous system directly”. For Bacon, portraiture was the supreme genre, capable of expressing what it means to be human: “I think art is an obsession with life, and after all, as we are human beings, our greatest obsession is ourselves.”
Some thirty paintings, including his emblematic triptychs, from private and public collections in Europe and overseas, complemented by photographs by the artist, make up the itinerary of this event, which is both thematic and chronological.
This exceptional event presents the disturbing work of an atypical artist of the last century.
