Le CinéManoir joins forces with Le Gore des Alpes to introduce you to a few pearls of dark and sinister cinema... A book - a film, with a reading of a chosen extract preceding each screening.
LAND OF THE DEAD 2005
George A. Romero
Horror film by George A. Romero (USA – FR – CA, 2005)
Original version with subtitles
With Devon Bostick, Simon Baker, Asia Argento
What’s it about?
Do we still need to introduce Big G, the undisputed master of the undead, the father of zombies in cinema, or at least the man who gave them their finest letters of nobility? Almost 40 years after his visionary Night of the Living Dead, Romero returns to zombie filmmaking. And while he still loves staging his cannibals, it’s never without political undertones. Here, the dead come back to life to take proletarian revenge on the bourgeois, holed up in a luxury skyscraper, enslaving the starving outside.
La Robe de Béton – Philippe Battaglia – Gore des Alpes – 2019
This theme is echoed in La Robe de Béton, in which immigrants, having sweated blood and water for the construction of the Grande Dixence dam, find themselves buried in the foundations before returning, rotting, to exact their revenge.
