The La Bâtiaz district is one of Martigny's historic areas, found at the foot of the famous castle with the same name.
The district is reached by crossing the Bâtiaz wooden bridge, which spans the Dranse river. At the foot of the dry rock, nestles the small chapel of Our Lady of Compassion with numerous coloured ex-voto. On the denuded rock is the massive Bâtiaz castle dungeon which, like a sentry, keeps watch over its area animated by numersous bars and restaurants.
