Each of Martigny's seventeen roundabouts are decorated with a sculpture by a Swiss artist. A unique artistic journey to be discovered by day and at night.
In 1994, Léonard Gianadda proposed a new concept to the Martigny Municipal Council: install a monumental sculpture by a contemporary Swiss artist on each roundabout (whereas the sculptures in the Gianadda Foundation gardens are works by international artists.)
Erected in a spirit of art and welcome, these scultures have been progrogressively accepted and integrated into the urban landscape. Martigny is the only Swiss town to have replaced red traffic-lights by art works.
