Would you sell your soul to the devil to regain youth and love?
The opera Faust by Charles Gounod is inspired by Goethe’s masterpiece. The story tells of the tragic pact between Faust, an old scholar disappointed with life, and Mephistopheles, the devil. In exchange for his regained youth, Faust sells his soul and falls in love with the young Marguerite, leading to a series of dramas.
This opera skillfully blends romance, temptation, and redemption, with famous arias such as “Ah! je ris de me voir si belle en ce miroir,” “Salut demeure chaste et pure,” and the grand choral piece « Gloire immortelle de nos aïeux ».
The Rhône Opera promises a spectacular staging of this 19th-century work.
