Remains of Martigny's first Christian buildings
Between 1990 and 1993, excavation under the parish church revealed the remains of a small early place of Christian worship within a Roman complex. It was probably a suburban villa, on which the first cathedral was built in Valais around the year 400. The remains of the sanctuaries which followed on the site up to the construction of the present baroque church are visible in the framework of an audiovisual presentation on demand or during guided visits organised by Martigny Tourism.
